Preservation Arts is your partner in the process of conservation. Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions:
What is art conservation?
Art conservation is any attempt to conserve and repair paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and objects of the decorative arts that have been adversely affected by negligence, damage, or the inevitable decay caused by the effects of time or the materials of which they are made.
Why work with Preservation Arts?
Preservation Arts provides museum quality conservation services to the private sector. Informed by decades of experience, the interdisciplinary team of professionals offers innovative solutions to conservation projects of every scale and media, performing all treatments with the highest level of ethical standards.
Founder and President Rowan Geiger and four of our conservators are Professional Associates of the American Institute for Conservation, and are peer-reviewed and recommended by the governing body of the AIC.
What is the process for working with you?
Contact us to discuss your conservation projects, large or small. When you email, be sure to include images of your artwork, its details (artist, date, medium, dimensions), and the concerns that need to be addressed.
Our client management team will walk you through the process of scheduling an assessment in our Oakland studio, where we will examine your artwork and provide a detailed treatment plan and estimate. When you approve next steps, conservators will treat your artwork with the highest standard of care, documenting the process and materials in a thorough treatment report for your records. Once finished, our art services team can even transport and install your newly conserved artwork on site.
We also offer artwork storage, transportation, condition reporting, collections management, pest management, and more.
Can you give me a quote over the phone?
Every project is unique and requires an individualized approach to develop a treatment plan. In order to provide an accurate estimate, conservators need to examine and test each artwork to develop a proper approach. Contact us today to learn more.
testimonials
“Highly professional and experienced conservators. Extremely responsive and accommodating. They do museum quality work even for someone like me who is just a casual art enthusiast. I wholeheartedly endorse Preservation Arts for bringing back to life a damaged painting that holds significant meaning.”
— Laura, Menlo Park, CA
“Rowan and her team helped prepare a private art collection for a high-profile public exhibition. She was not only sensitive to our tight timeline, the work was careful and thorough, transforming the objects so that they were in the best possible condition to be enjoyed by museum visitors. I also very much appreciate the detailed treatment report, which included information on further object care. I absolutely recommend Preservation Arts, and I look forward to working with Rowan again.”
— Jean, San Jose, CA
